Grizzly Medium Walker
As one of the earliest US applications of Rift-technology, the M8 Grizzly was the first of any nation's walkers to have an impact on the battlefield. Its history was one of rapid invention and construction, utilising some of the first signals deciphered from the mysterious Nevada Rift.
The M8 was a highly successful concept and after a short series of field trials was deemed ready for combat trials in only a year from its conception in August 1945. Its performance in the liberation of Brussels resulted in full scale production by the end of the year. As and early design, much of the Grizzly's parts are rudimentary, but this serves to improve its reliability and ruggedness, and makes it easy to repair. As such it is a favourite of its crews, being comfortable to fight from and effective on the battlefield.
Designed to assist infantry in urban operations, the M8 Grizzly is equipped with the proven combination of 75mm gun and .50 cal HMG, it has an HE round suitable for close quarter combat and enough AT capability to deal with medium or lighter armour. This firepower is complemented by two powerful utility arms that can damage armoured vehicles as easily as demolish buildings and clear obstacles. The addition of even a single Grizzly to an infantry Company is a genuine force multiplier in urban warfare.
Never designed to stand up to heavy tanks, the M8 Grizzly's armour and mobility are excellent, and with supporting infantry to protect it from hand-held AT weapons, it can suppress defensive positions and clear enemy emplacements to allow its infantry to rapidly take ground in close quarters fighting.
