Hernán Cortés was a Spanish Conquistador born in 1485 and died in 1547, led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. In the early 16^th century he brought large chunks of Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile and was part of the generation of Spanish Colonizers who began the first stages of the Spanish colonization of the Americas.
